Wythburn Place is a small, cobbled mews in Marylebone, within the City of Westminster, characterised by a collection of predominantly period residential properties. Originally known as Wythburn Mews, the street was developed between approximately 1810 and 1820 alongside the expansion of Bryanston Square and Montagu Square as part of the historic Portman Estate. The name Wythburn is associated with Wythburn Fells in Cumberland, taking its name through its connection with nearby Great Cumberland Place. Today, Wythburn Place offers a peaceful residential setting while being conveniently positioned close to the cafés, restaurants and independent amenities of Seymour Place, Marylebone High Street and Connaught Village.

The mews was originally constructed to provide coach-house and stable accommodation for the larger properties on Great Upper Berkeley Street, forming part of the traditional service network behind London’s grand Georgian residences. Its historic character was significantly affected during the Blitz, when parts of the mews were damaged by bombing. The post-war redevelopment resulted in much of the northern side being occupied by Wythburn Court, a six-storey brick apartment building, creating an interesting contrast between the surviving low-rise mews properties and later residential architecture. The former coach houses have since been converted for residential use, preserving elements of the street’s historic identity.

Wythburn Place benefits from an excellent central London location, with the open spaces of Hyde Park and Marble Arch close by and the shops and amenities of Oxford Street within easy reach. Marble Arch Underground station is approximately 0.5 miles away, while Baker Street and Paddington stations are around 0.7 miles from the mews, providing convenient connections across London and towards Heathrow.
