St George’s Square Mews is a historic cobbled mews street in the heart of Pimlico, SW1V, situated just off Aylesford Street and close to the River Thames and the picturesque St George’s Square. The mews comprises around 24 properties, with the original buildings dating from the 1830s through to the 1870s. Like many traditional London mews, St George’s Square Mews was created to serve the grander homes around the nearby square, providing stable and coach-house accommodation on the ground floor, with modest rooms above for grooms and domestic staff. The mews suffered damage during the Second World War when a high-explosive bomb struck the street in 1940, resulting in several properties being rebuilt.

Following the war, St George’s Square Mews became increasingly sought after as former working buildings were converted into distinctive private residences. By the 1960s, mews houses across London had become fashionable homes, particularly among affluent residents and people from the worlds of entertainment and the arts. Today, St George’s Square Mews retains its historic cobbled character while offering a peaceful residential setting close to some of Pimlico’s best-known amenities. St George’s Square is particularly close by, with its attractive gardens and Victorian architecture providing a pleasant green setting, while Pimlico Underground Station, Warwick Way’s shops and restaurants, and the River Thames Embankment are all within easy reach.
