Russell Gardens Mews, Kensington Olympia, London, W14

Russell Gardens Mews is a small and attractive cobbled cul-de-sac tucked behind the larger properties of Elsham Road in Kensington. Originally built to provide stable accommodation for the substantial houses in the surrounding streets, the mews retains a number of traditional features, including original stable doors, first-floor hayloft doors, exposed timbers and traditional casement windows. Several of the properties are notably spacious for a London mews, with some extending to more than 2,000 square feet. Although the mews suffered bomb damage during the Second World War, it was rebuilt shortly afterwards and has since developed into a sought-after residential enclave. Its architectural history was also brought to wider attention when a redevelopment within the mews featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs in 2010.

The location of Russell Gardens Mews is particularly convenient for Kensington, Holland Park and Shepherd’s Bush, with Kensington High Street just moments away and offering an extensive selection of boutiques, cafés, bars and restaurants. The open spaces and landscaped gardens of Holland Park are also close by, while Kensington Olympia provides further shopping, dining, entertainment and exhibition facilities. Transport connections are excellent, with Kensington Olympia Station approximately 260 feet away, providing District line and London Overground services, and Shepherd’s Bush also within easy reach on the Central line.
