Reece Mews is an attractive Victorian cobbled mews running between Harrington Road and Old Brompton Road, just east of Queen’s Gate in the heart of South Kensington. Originally associated with the larger surrounding properties, the mews retains the intimate scale and character traditionally associated with historic London mews streets. Its central position places it within a short walk of South Kensington Underground Station, while the surrounding streets are home to a wide choice of shops, cafés and restaurants and the Victoria and Albert Museum, Natural History Museum and Science Museum all close by.

Reece Mews is particularly notable for its association with the celebrated British painter Francis Bacon, who moved to 7 Reece Mews in 1961 and lived and worked there until his death in 1992. English Heritage confirms that Bacon’s former home and studio is commemorated by a blue plaque, recognising the more than three decades he spent working at the address. The nearby ski mural, Up, Up and Away, at the junction with Kendrick Mews adds another artistic connection to this characterful corner of London.
