Kynance Mews, South Kensington, London, SW7

Kynance Mews is a picturesque cobbled mews in South Kensington, developed between 1862 and 1879 as the stable and coach house accommodation for the grand Victorian homes of Cornwall Gardens. Originally known as Cornwall Mews, it retained that name until 1924, when it was renamed after the celebrated Kynance Cove on Cornwall’s Lizard Peninsula, continuing the area’s Cornish-inspired street names. Launceston Place, which divides the mews into two distinct sections, also takes its name from the Cornish town of Launceston. Today, the former service buildings have been converted into desirable private homes, while the mews retains its historic character with Grade II listed stucco entrance arches and a long-established veterinary clinic.

Now recognised as one of London’s most photographed and attractive mews streets, Kynance Mews is especially admired for its seasonal displays of wisteria in spring and colourful autumn foliage. Its distinctive setting has also made it a popular filming location, featuring in productions including Damage (1992), Who Dares Wins (1982), Netflix’s You (Season 4), and several classic British films. Residents enjoy a quiet residential setting within easy walking distance of Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park and the museums, restaurants and shops of South Kensington.
