.. sometimes it’s something slightly off-the-wall about living – or working – in a mews. We’ve just seen this advert for a Groom in the Royal Mews, and that made us want to dig a little deeper into what goes on inside these regal working stables, located in Buckingham Palace grounds. There has been a Royal Mews at the palace since the 1820s. The queen’s magnificent state coaches and other carriages are kept there along with 30 horses and state motor cars are also garaged there. In traditional mews style, the monarch’s coachmen, grooms, chauffeurs and other staff live in flats above the carriage houses and stables.If you qualify for the job (“passion for horses and experience of working in a yard”) you can expect to receive
