Walking tour of London’s picturesque mews streets

If you’ve over-indulged on chocolate and hot cross buns this Easter, walking is a great way to reclaim your waistline. The Chief Medical Officer recommends that adults take 150 minutes of “moderate intensity, aerobic, physical activity” each week.

At Lurot Brand we’ve drawn up a list of stunning locations for you to visit as part of our London Mews Walking Tour. Depending on how many Easter eggs you need to burn off, you can either choose a couple of streets to visit or cover all five stops suggested here.

Stop 1. Put your best foot forward, starting out at Pont Street Mews in Knightsbridge: a street so close to Harrods that local residents can use the famous department store for convenience shopping. Tucked away behind a brick archway, this desirable cobbled mews street simply oozes charm and character.

Stop 2. Just a few minutes away you’ll find Lennox Gardens Mews, where the stucco-fronted properties are painted in cool, pastel colours. Look out for the ironwork balcony at number 5 and the English Heritage blue plaque at number 8, which shows that this was once the home of a famous Polish statesman.

Stop 3. The next stop on our tour is picturesque Kynance Mews in Kensington; reached after a pleasant, 25-minute walk taking in South Kensington’s museums district and a restorative tipple or coffee in one of the many bars and cafes. The green-fingered residents here have added a profusion of pot plants, window boxes and climbing plants to the front of their properties, so spring and early summer is the perfect time to visit.

Stop 4. You can reach Hyde Park Garden Mews by taking a stroll through (you guessed it) Hyde Park. With its wrought iron balconies and window boxes in full bloom, this mews can feel more like a colourful corner of Provence than a street in W2. Hyde Park Garden Mews also boasts attractive Victorian style street lanterns that add to its period charm.

Stop 5. Still moments from Hyde Park but slightly nearer Paddington Station, our last stop is Bathurst Mews. This lovely mews street has a remarkable secret, as it is home to the last two riding schools in central London. Listen out for the clip-clop of horses’ hooves as you make your way home.
